Israel har gripit och arresterat över 300 israeliska medborgare för att dessa behagat protestera mot övergreppen i Gaza:
Police Northern District Commander Shimon Koren stated that “We will exercise zero tolerance in the face of the rioters and those inciting against Israel,” thus equating the legitimate and justified protests of thousands of Palestinians in Israel with riots and incitement. Koren further added that some of the riots were “covertly orchestrated” by Palestinian leaders, thereby negating the right and duty of leaders to mobilize and direct.
Opposition leader (and possible next Prime Minister of Israel) Benyamin Netanyahu of the Likud party, also trotted out the standard “criticism equals treason” charge generally made by Jewish Israeli politicians against Palestinian citizens of Israel, calling on all citizens of Israel “to remain loyal to the state of Israel during this just war against our enemy. We stand united in this war,” Netanyahu added. “Not every citizen must automatically support every move the government makes, but it is unacceptable for Israeli citizens to support our enemies.”
This criminalization of the protests by Palestinian citizens and residents of Israel was highlighted yesterday in the Israeli Knesset, which rejected a proposal initiated by the Hadash, Balad and United Arab List parties calling for an immediate ceasefire. Member of Knesset Taleb a-Sanaa was removed from the plenum when he answered Minister of Defence Barak’s claim that “300 terrorists” had been killed since the beginning of fighting by saying “tell the Knesset how many of them were women and children.”
De som fortfarande hävdar att Israels brutala övergrepp i Gaza har med några futtiga Kassam-raketer att göra borde fundera över det faktum att israeliska politiker länge sagt att ett anfall mot Gaza är förestående, på gång. Det handlar inte om nåt överraskningsanfall, inte om något som kommit till som vedergällning, utan om något som planerats och aviserats länge:
No one should pretend to be shocked by the extent of the Israeli crime being committed in Gaza—it was carefully prepared, and even announced! A wide range of Israeli politicians made public statements about such attacks, competing to outbid each other. Many United Nations officials had sounded the alert about the siege of Gaza, which was already unbearable, even before the bombs started falling. Even the lorries, which were authorized to carry supplies across the border on the eve of the attack, appear to have been part of the preparations for the current military offensive
Det handlar i själva verket om Israels vanliga agerande mot palestinier, mot Gaza och mot Libanon. Ett ständigt förtryck mot palestinier som ibland skärps till med hjälp av bombplan och invasioner. Israel går till och med så långt att man inte drar sig från att attackera hjälpsändningar. Israels metod har alltid varit våldets och förtryckets. Det är sanningen:
And when killing over 320 Palestinians and injuring close to 1000 this past Saturday by dropping 100 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Southern Command GOC announced that the Israeli army will “send Gaza decades into the past” in terms of weapons capabilities while achieving “the maximum number of enemy casualties.”

Unfortunately, Israel has largely succeeded in its campaign to convince key international players that Hamas broke the ceasefire and that Palestinian residents of Gaza whom it has somehow defined as “Hamas members” may be legitimately (and extra-judicially) murdered by the Israeli military. Israel has also succeeded in equating the launch of homemade rockets by individual or small Palestinian resistance groups with dropping of 100 (and counting) tons of missiles by one of the most technologically advanced air forces in the world. The US-led 6+ year international crusade against “terrorism” has prepared much of western public opinion to easily accept such equations.
Israels övergrepp kommer tyvärr att fortsätta. Det är deras plan och deras vanliga agerande. Det kommer att fortsätta så länge som USA ger sitt stöd, så länge som Europa tiger still och så länge som ingen opinion i världen bryr sig. Det är därför vår skyldighet att bygga en sådan opinion mot Israels förtryck, mot krig och förstörelse.
